Whiskers Way Station makes a big impact, and so can you!

What is it like to be abandoned by your mother?

Last winter, a tiny kitten named Vera was abandoned by her own mother in a *feral colony. Scared, hungry, and cold, Vera was then scooped up into human hands which felt like no rescue at all to her at the time.

Off she goes to her Foster Mama, terrified of the world around her! She was beyond scared, causing her foster mama to reach out to Stray Cat Blues Whiskers Way Station team for help. Whiskers Way Station is a place to rehabilitate and work with under socialized cats. Yes, Stray Cat Blues has Cat Whisperers! It’s always a trying time as cats coming to our rescue are already stressed and confused, especially those coming from the outdoors.

Whiskers Way Station would do their best to help socialize this very young kitten and avoid her having to be returned to the colony, but it is never 100% assurance. Vera was a spitfire and offered lots of hissing, spitting and swatting in her first few weeks indoors.

Although she was a challenge, our amazing team was committed to helping Vera accept trust and eventually learn to love. It took 4 months of daily sessions to convince this sweet girl that we weren’t going to eat her and then one day, a lightbulb finally went on in her head and a love bug blossomed and our work was done!

In June of this year a very experienced and patient potential adopter came to meet another Whiskers Way Station resident but as they say, “the cat chooses you” and as luck would have it, Vera turned on her charm and instantly a match was made!

Vera is now a happy house cat (yes…house cat) living her dream indoors with lot’s of love, feeling safe and secure and from harm’s way.

We envision a community where our cat population is controlled through spaying or neutering, and all cats and kittens have safe places to live and thrive.

Much love Vera and we are happy to fulfill your dream and our dream of controlling the cat population through spaying and neutering and giving all cats and kittens safe places to live and thrive.

*Feral colony is a cat population of feral/unsocialized cats. Feral cats live together in a specific location and utilize a common food source. Usually this food source is scavenged from trash and dumpsters, or from caregivers who provide food for the colony.
