🐈‍⬛ Be A Part of Kevin's Meow-racle

On the coldest night of last year, one of our Stray Cat Blues trappers found herself peering into a dark, icy window well. Nine tiny, four-week-old kittens were huddled together, shivering and clinging to each other for warmth. “If I leave them, they’ll freeze,” she thought, and she quickly called our foster team for help.

A short drive later, those fragile kittens were placed into the hands of a Stray Cat Blues foster, who looked down at their frightened faces and made a silent promise: “I’ll do everything I can.” She warmed them up, syringe fed, and treated each kitten that night. After a few hours of sleep, she checked on them, her heart pounding. All nine kittens were snuggled together, each one still with her. Against all odds, they all had survived.

As the days passed, one kitten—the smallest—struggled the most. He was weak, barely able to lift his head, with a round belly bloated from worms. His lively sibling, however, never left his side. She named the little one Kevin, after the awkward bird from Up that swallowed tennis balls, and his loyal companion Bear, for his boundless energy and fierce protectiveness over his brother.

Seven of the nine kittens eventually found other foster homes, but Kevin and Bear were inseparable. Their foster knew they needed each other, like two pieces of one heart. After three months of loving care, Kevin and Bear were finally healthy enough for adoption.

Then, Kevin fell terribly ill.

What began as a small cough spiraled into serious respiratory issues. Multiple vet visits followed, with rounds of antibiotics, x-rays, and consultations with three veterinarians, but Kevin’s condition has persisted. He continues to suffer from chronic respiratory infections and occasionally struggles to breathe. Veterinarians suspect it may be a polyp, stenosis, or chronic inflammation, but a CT scan and rhinoscopy are necessary to determine the cause and find a solution.

Currently, we’re raising funds for Kevin’s urgent medical tests. This Giving Tuesday, you have the opportunity to give Kevin the fighting chance he deserves—just like on that very first night.

We’re proud to say that 100% of every donation goes directly to caring for cats in need, from those just beginning their journeys to those facing long roads to recovery. With your help, we can continue to rescue, treat, and give second chances to cats like Kevin, Bear, and their siblings. This year, please consider donating to help us save more lives, provide more second chances, and ensure no kitten has to face the cold alone.
