Get in the Paw-liday Spirit 🎁 Give a Gift, Save a Cat!

Lilo was born outside, to a stray cat mom. Some kind volunteers with Stray Cat Blues trapped her family to get them all spayed and vaccinated. They thought that the kittens, at about 3 months old, may still be young enough to be socialized and turned into house cats. Initially, the youngsters didn’t think that was a good idea, and under protest they went into foster care.

At first, Lilo was terrified and did lots of spitting and hissing. She wanted no part of being touched or handled by people. Gradually, she began to realize how comforting it was to be safe and warm indoors (it was February and bitter cold outside when rescued). She got used to being fed, given treats and playing with toys. Even so, the hissing at people continued. Lilo’s foster mom realized that she needed help with Lilo’s socialization, so off she went to Stray Cat Blue's facility called “Whisker Way Station” (WWS) where volunteers work on getting kitties like her ready for a fur-ever home.

Once at WWS, Lilo was gradually shown several new things. We eventually discovered that being brushed broke down her defenses. It was her sweet spot. She enjoyed the feeling of it so much that we could then introduce hands for petting without her even noticing. Our cuddlers interacted with Lilo daily for four months to get her ready for the next chapter in her life, a home of her own!

Had Stray Cat Blues not intervened, Lilo’s future would have turned out very differently. She would have been out in the elements, subjected to predators, unprotected from diseases, maybe hit by a car, always searching for her next meal. Instead, listen to what Lilo’s new mom has to say about what Lilo’s life is like now.

IT'S DONOR GIVING DECEMBER!

“Lilo continues to blossom. She loves her food, Zoomies, mice, watching wildlife, and paling around with Lena. She likes following me around the house and having conversations. But the absolute best is when she calls me upstairs at night to come to bed. She gets so excited as I’m brushing my teeth and says hurry Mommy. Then I get under the covers and she walks up to my body and throws herself on her side, spooned against me while I kiss her head and pet her. She purrs and kneads all night long. Something told me the day I first saw her photo- posted the day after Albert died, that she was the one! We are so happy!”

What we do has a huge impact “one cat at a time”.
